Why it’s important to us that you’re informed
Our Insider Scoop Newsletter has been taking a deep dive into the world of supplements on Amazon as we perform our own investigations into the goings-on of this industry-dominating giant. Through taking a closer look, we’ve found that the Amazon marketplace is filled to the brim with businesses misleading consumers for their own gain with products that are mislabeled and certainly not CBD.
Here’s more on why you should be in the loop:
- Amazon has become almost like a reflex for Americans today, we collectively need to exercise more caution.
- As a family-owned CBD company who invests a lot of time into ensuring the quality and purity of our products, we think it’s only fair that all brands are held up to the same quality standards.
- With high-quality CBD’s immense potential to help people, it’s time to crack down on those who are cashing in on misinformed consumers.
A closer look at Amazon CBD oils
CBD oil is not allowed to be sold on amazon
If you were to head to Amazon right now and type in, “CBD Oil”, over 10,000 results would populate the page. But you’d soon notice that they aren’t labeled, CBD oil. They’d instead say “Hemp Oil”. This is because CBD oil is not currently allowed to be sold on Amazon.
This is a common labeling tactic that CBD manufacturers use to make sure they have have a product that is always in compliance with an ever-changing market. So, when you see hemp oil on Amazon, it could mean one of two things:
- The bottle possesses oil from hemp and hemp seeds and has no CBD (most common)
- The brand is using the word ‘hemp’ in place of ‘CBD’ for legality, though it is indeed, CBD oil
While we know this is a confusing distinction, whether labeled as hemp oil or CBD oil, all Neurogan products have always been and always will be full-spectrum CBD products.
That being said, our case is not the norm. Even though we temporarily labeled our products as hemp oil while selling on Amazon, we always had the lab results to back up our products.
How manufacturers are cashing in
Now, imagine a manufacturer is selling hemp seed oil in 2010. The product would be purchased by the few interested in using the oil for cooking or beauty purposes.
But now in 2019, hemp-based products are all the rage.
Manufacturers selling that same hemp seed oil product now can simply omit the word “seed” from the product labeling and dupe people into thinking they’re buying a CBD product from Amazon.
In turn, these manufacturers quadruple their margins from the traffic of consumers who don’t know any better.

Best CBD Oil on Amazon: Why You Shouldn’t Buy Hemp Oil on Amazon?
If you’re looking for CBD online, then you’re probably wondering if you can find some on Amazon.
People are looking to buy cannabidiol (CBD) products on Amazon for many reasons.
It makes sense to check Amazon for CBD oil. The e-commerce giant offers a convenient way of shopping, has a vast selection of products, and delivers fast.
It’s unlikely that Amazon is selling CBD oil due to the long list of new regulations for selling CBD. However, some people have reported that CBD oil is being sold on Amazon. We’ll try to find out the truth about this claim.
Can You Buy CBD Oil On Amazon?
Short answer: technically, no.
CBD oils are everywhere. They’re on the news, on the internet, and now, they’re even in your local grocery store. With all these CBD products coming out of the woodwork, it’s difficult to know which one to choose.
If you’re searching for CBD oil products on Amazon, you may be disappointed with the selections available. You might end up buying something that claims to be CBD oil only to find out later that it’s not actually CBD oil at all!
One thing must be made abundantly clear: Currently, no legitimate CBD products are being sold on Amazon.
Is CBD Oil Legal?
Hemp-derived CBD oil is not classified as a controlled substance, which means it is legal in all states. You can bring CBD and travel within the country without any problems.
Such products contain less than 0.3% of THC, the psychoactive ingredient that makes marijuana users high.
You can buy CBD oil without a prescription. But state laws vary on the minimum age for buying CBD.
CBD can be used by anyone who needs it without having to worry about asking permission from the federal government. This means that if you’re traveling with CBD oil and you’re pulled over by law enforcement, they can’t arrest you for transporting it across state lines.
Since CBD oil is legal in the United States, you might be confused why the largest online store does not sell it.
Why Amazon Doesn’t Technically Sell CBD Oil
So why is Amazon not selling CBD oil?
After all, you can buy almost everything there. It shouldn’t be difficult to include CBD oil, right?
Amazon has been around for many years now. It has done business across the world and in every state in the US. The company takes all the necessary precautions under federal and state laws when deciding to add new products to its stock, for example, CBD oil.
Amazon is already earning billions of dollars right now, so they’re not going to risk what’s already working for them.
Amazon’s Strict Policy against CBD
The Amazon web page on restricted products explains, “Products offered for sale on Amazon must comply with all laws and regulations.”
The Drugs & drug paraphernalia subsection adds the following:
- “Controlled substances are drugs that are illegal, such as cocaine or heroin.”
- “Products used with controlled substances may be considered drug paraphernalia.”
- “Listings for products containing cannabidiol (CBD) are prohibited.”
Beware: If You See CBD Oil on Amazon, Here’s What You Need To Know
So if there’s a policy against selling CBD on Amazon, what are these products that are marketed as CBD oil on their website?
When you search for CBD oil on Amazon, you will see some results, but none of these items are actually CBD oils, per se. You will only come across products with these labels:
- hemp extract
- hemp oil
- hemp oil extract
But why would they confuse their potential consumers? That will only affect their sales, right?
Well, if they market them as “CBD” products, there will be no sales at all.
In order to comply with Amazon’s rules, sellers make sure not to say anything about CBD on their product listings, or they can lose their selling privileges.
Amazon Allows the Sale Of Hemp Oil, Not To Be Confused With Actual CBD Oil
Hemp oil is legally sold on Amazon, which is not the same thing as actual CBD oil. There are differences between hemp seeds oils and CBD oil but both come from the same plant, cannabis Sativa which is why they are often confused with one another.
As a result, sellers are able to get around Amazon’s restrictions by exploiting their customers’ unfamiliarity.
So when you type in “CBD” into the search bar, you probably won’t find the actual CBD product you’re looking for. The results will only be filled with hemp seed oils containing no cannabinoids that don’t provide any of the benefits of CBD.
Why You Should Not Buy CBD on Amazon
Regardless of what comes up in your search results, just remember that CBD isn’t legally available on Amazon.
Here’s why you shouldn’t buy those so-called CBD products on Amazon:
Amazon is Flooded With Fake CBD Oil Vendors
With CBD’s growing popularity, it seems like it’s also getting more and more difficult to find vendors who are actually selling real CBD oil.
Fake CBD sellers are taking advantage of the largely unregulated CBD market. So it’s not surprising that there are so many inauthentic products on Amazon.
These sellers would make outrageous claims about their products, like claiming that they can effectively cure many diseases. This not only hurts the image of the industry but also leads to increased regulation and hinders research efforts for legitimate treatments.
Amazon’s “CBD” Products Are Not Tested And Could Harm You
Since CBD oils on Amazon are unregulated, this means that the quality of the product is unknown to the purchaser. It can also be tainted with harmful substances.
Only buy CBD products from sellers who have a certificate of analysis (COA) like Gold Bee.
A COA is a third-party lab report that verifies that the CBD product you’re buying contains what you expect and nothing else. The lab analyzes the product for contaminants, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and other substances.
Amazon’s “CBD” Products Are Not Labeled Accurately
It’s a sad reality that many of these products pretending to be CBD oils are not accurately labeled in terms of ingredients and/or dosage information.
This makes it extremely difficult for the consumer to choose what’s best for them, which is why it’s so important for Amazon to implement strict standards for their products.
Where to Buy CBD Oil Online Instead?
Instead of Amazon, where should I buy CBD online?
We all know that Amazon is a great website for buying things. People who want to conveniently purchase online often turn to Amazon. But what about CBD oil?
Thanks to the internet, buying almost any kind of stuff online has never been easier. In fact, you can find a wide range of CBD products on the web. It’s now a matter of finding a legitimate and safe CBD oil vendor.
Amazon is probably not the best place to get CBD oil if you want to experience its full benefits. There are other reputable vendors that offer CBD oil online.
If you’re not careful, you might end up buying from a scammer who tries to trick you into paying for ineffective stuff that can potentially harm you. If that happens, it’s going to be a total waste of money and time, while also putting your health on the line.
If you would like to buy authentic and high-quality CBD oil today, feel free to visit Gold Bee’s online shop. Our third-party tested CBD products are natural, potent, and reflect the complete cannabinoid profile of the original plant. They leverage the concept called the entourage effect — which enhances the health benefits of each ingredient in your CBD.

It isn’t surprising that Amazon is now involved in the hemp oil market. However, is the oil sold on the site similar to what you’d find in a medical cannabis dispensary or reputable CBD store?
The recent increase in CBD oil use has given rise to dozens of new Amazon vendors. As a consumer, you must make sure you understand how to identify and select a high-quality CBD oil. This means finding something that is safe, laboratory tested, and works for your unique needs.
This article discusses Amazon hemp oils and whether they’re therapeutically effective and contain any CBD. First, let’s look at an important issue surrounding hemp oils.
What’s the Difference Between Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Oil?
Technically speaking, hemp oil could be CBD oil. After all, CBD oil is extracted from hemp plants‘ flowers, leaves, stems, and stalks. Therefore, a hemp extract could contain a significant amount of CBD.
In contrast, hemp seed oil contains practically no CBD, although it has plenty of health benefits on its own. For example, it is rich in healthy fats and essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 acids. It can also be a good source of protein. It contains high amounts of various vitamins and minerals, including:
- Vitamin E
For the record, most CBD brands sell hemp-derived cannabidiol containing a maximum of 0.3% THC. While hemp is federally legal, CBD is not. However, most states permit the sale and use of CBD that comes from industrial hemp cultivated in accordance with the 2018 Farm Bill.
In contrast, marijuana-derived CBD is only permitted in states where marijuana is recreationally legal or if you have an MMJ card in a state with a medical marijuana program.
You’re incredibly unlikely to find high-THC oil on Amazon, but what about CBD products?
What Is in the Hemp Oil You Find on Amazon?
If you go to the Amazon website and search for ‘CBD oil,’ you’ll get thousands of results. Many of these products are advertised as “hemp oil supplements.” However, upon further investigation, you’ll notice none of them mention anything about CBD. Instead, most of these oils are extracts of hemp seed.
While hemp seeds are nutritious and helpful in their own right, they are not the same as CBD oil. This is why many of the product descriptions on Amazon don’t mention CBD content.
Amazon is also strict with its policy regarding CBD oil or anything cannabis-related. The company won’t sell CBD for fear of breaking federal laws. The market is poorly regulated, and officially allowing CBD sellers on the site could cause big trouble for Amazon. Remember, CBD isn’t federally legal, whereas hemp is.
Many of the hemp oils found on Amazon don’t contain any CBD at all.
Ultimately, the hemp oil you’ll find on Amazon is almost certain to be hemp seed oil. In some cases, you can tell whether it is potentially real CBD oil due to the price. For instance, paying $100+ for 1,000mg of cannabidiol is realistic, whereas you can’t expect to get 25,000mg of CBD oil for $30! On other occasions, the retailer describes their product as ‘full-spectrum hemp extract.’
Buying hemp oil on Amazon is an unnecessary risk when finding a reputable online CBD seller is easy. On Amazon, you could spend hundreds of dollars on a product available for a few bucks from a local store!
How Sellers List CBD Oil on Amazon
Amazon has historically banned people from selling any products containing CBD on their website. However, as of 2021, they have created some exceptions to the rules, inviting certain companies to sell CBD oil and other CBD products on Amazon UK as part of a pilot program.
Therefore, if you google search “CBD oil Amazon” or “hemp oil CBD Amazon,” you will only see a limited number of products from those companies participating in the pilot program.
Aside from those select few UK sellers, companies looking to sell hemp products on Amazon, therefore, need to ensure their products don’t contain any CBD or other cannabinoids. These rules are clearly stated on the Amazon Listing Guidelines webpage:
“The only ingestible hemp products that are permitted for sale on Amazon.co.uk are those products that contain cold-pressed hemp seed oil from the Cannabis sativa plant, and that do not contain CBD, THC, or other cannabinoids.”
The benefits of hemp seed oil…
Amazon also has clear rules on what information people can include in their product descriptions. These include:
- Products need to clearly state in the ingredients that they contain only hemp seed oil
- Hemp products, such as gummies, containing only hemp seed oil are prohibited
- Products can’t contain any prohibited health claims – such as claiming a product can treat a certain condition or misleading information about environmental-friendliness
- Excluding the pilot study, products can’t state they contain any parts of the hemp plant that aren’t the seeds
Amazon uses advanced algorithms to determine whether their listing contains any banned words to ensure sellers are in line with these rules. If they overstep their boundaries, their product is removed.
Can You Buy Real CBD Oil on Amazon?
Thanks to the introduction of the pilot program in the UK in February 2021, the answer is ‘yes,’ but only from a limited number of suppliers.
Therefore, if you’re based in the UK, you can buy CBD oil on Amazon, as well as CBD-containing lozenges, capsules, and skin creams and serums, from brands that are part of this program. These brands include:
- Four Five CBD
- Tower Health
- Skin Republic
For the rest of the globe, CBD products are strictly prohibited on Amazon. However, certain companies have gotten away with selling CBD-containing items. They don’t mention cannabidiol in their product listing but let consumers know about the CBD content through product reviews and social media.
In an article published by the Washington Post, with the headline, Amazon prohibits CBD sales, but it’s still easy to buy on the site, they claimed to have found CBD, and even THC, in 11 out of 13 products they’d bought on Amazon from sellers using this loophole.
Buying CBD Oil with THC on Amazon
CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids interact to enhance one another’s effect, known as the entourage effect. Because of the synergy between these molecules, there’s a big interest in full-spectrum CBD oil, which contains CBD, THC, and several different cannabinoids.
As Amazon’s guidance pages clearly state that full-spectrum CBD oils and products with THC aren’t allowed on their website, legally, it’s not possible to buy CBD oil with THC on Amazon. Even products on the UK CBD pilot program clearly state they have 0% THC content.
It’s typically much safer to get CBD from a trusted retailer or through a legal medical cannabis prescription.
It may be possible to get CBD oil with THC or full-spectrum products on Amazon through the loophole mentioned in the Washington Post story.
However, it’s typically much safer to get your products from a trusted CBD retailer or through a legal medical cannabis prescription. When you buy CBD oil on Amazon, there’s always a high risk that you won’t get what you pay for.
In contrast, with CBD brands such as Premium Jane, Elixinol, and Green Roads, you know that you’re getting the best of what the industry has to offer.
Final Thoughts on “Real” CBD Oil vs. Amazon Hemp Oil
There are very few “real” CBD oils for sale on Amazon, besides a few in the UK pilot program. Most products seem to be hemp seed oils that come from the seeds of the cannabis plant, thus containing virtually no cannabinoids.
The products are also very careful about not using other cannabis-related words like ‘THC,’ ‘cannabinoids,’ ‘medicine,’ ‘therapy,’ and so on.
To get high-quality, genuine CBD oil, you’ll have to either get a medical marijuana card and buy from a dispensary or order online from a reputable manufacturer that offers lab-verified CBD content. Please see the table below to learn more about highly regarded brands in the niche.
